Uncut 150 - The Missing Albums

Uncut recently published their top 150 albums of the decade. It was a good list, but there was a lot missing, and some strange inclusions.

I thought I'd start with some albums that should have included but weren't:

1. Bubblegum by Mark Lanegan Band

I'm surprised they missed this one, given they included Rated R and Songs For The Deaf from QOTSA. An album of atmospheric, feedback driven, twisted, wasted elegance. Highlights include "Hit the City" with PJ Harvey, "Bombed", "Strange Religion" - actually forget it, the whole album is great.

2. Heart On by Eagles of Death Metal

Hmm, bit of a desert rock theme here. But this is definitely one of the most fun and rocking albums of the decade. Their name comes from their intention to sound like the Eagles playing Death Metal, but in reality they sound like a less serious Rolling Stones. They are also one of the best live bands I've ever seen (one show I saw involved the bizarre spectacle of the crowd chanting "There's only one Dave Catching, there's only one Dave Catching....").

3. Bow Down to the Exit Sign by David Holmes.

Fantastic concept dance/rock crossover album. Again I'm surprised Uncut missed it, as my copy has a sticker on the front saying "an intense kaleidoscopic rush of contrasting styles - Uncut". If you have this album, note there's a secret track you can get to by rewinding the first track.
